Our week began with milder temperatures, which provided the perfect opportunity to complete our final fire drill before the winter break. Practicing these drills in various conditions is essential, as emergencies can happen at any time. The weather conditions also served as a helpful reminder for students to double-check their indoor shoe choices.
As the week progressed, the temperatures dropped quickly, and the bitter cold required us to adjust some of our schedules. Alongside these changes, the school was buzzing with anticipation as we prepared for the Winter Concert on Thursday evening. The excitement—and a few nerves—were felt throughout the building.
The Winter Concert was a wonderful success. Students performed songs about snowmen, hot chocolate, avalanches, and winter weather, accompanied by dancing, kazoos, and glockenspiels. It was a joyful evening, and we extend our heartfelt thanks to our Division One teachers and Ms. Laney for their dedication and hard work in preparing such a memorable event.
We look forward to welcoming Sandra Manyfeathers back to our school on Monday. She will be visiting with each of our classes and teaching students more about the Blackfoot language, and Indigenous stories, games and dances.
Next week is our Spirit Week, featuring a fun theme each day:
- Monday: Festive Hat Day
- Tuesday: Wear Holiday Colours
- Wednesday: Winter Wonderland Day (wear blue and white)
- Thursday: Holiday Hair Day
- Friday: Pyjama Day
Our Grade 6 students will also be hosting a festive fundraiser to add to the excitement. Funds raised will support their upcoming outdoor field trip experience.
Here’s how it works:
- A photo of each teacher will be displayed outside their classroom.
- Students can purchase white dot stickers for 25¢ each.
- Each sticker can be added to a teacher’s photo to help “grow” a beard.
- Grade 6 students will collect money and distribute stickers each morning.
- By Thursday afternoon, the teacher with the largest beard (most stickers) in each division will earn their class a hot chocolate party on Friday, complete with whipped cream and sprinkles!
We look forward to another wonderful week of learning and community.
