It was certainly a frosty week, with many indoor recesses due to the cold temperatures. While we missed our outdoor time, it gave students a chance to connect in different ways — catching up on highlights from the Olympics and sharing family traditions and celebrations such as Lunar New Year and Ramadan. These conversations helped build cultural understanding and community within our classrooms.
Students have been busy with creative and academic learning. Many classes explored dragon eye artwork inspired by Lunar New Year celebrations, practiced story writing with a focus on organization and descriptive language, and worked intentionally on reading comprehension strategies such as identifying the main idea, making inferences, and supporting answers with evidence from the text.
Looking ahead to next week:
- We will have our final session of Alien Inline Skating. Students have shown tremendous growth in confidence and skill development — thank you for ensuring they have been prepared with their equipment.
- Our grade 4, 5 and 6 students will be attending the Be Brave Hockey Game at the Scotiabank Saddledome. This event focuses on kindness, inclusion, and bullying awareness. It is always an inspiring experience for students as they hear powerful messages about standing up for others and building positive school communities.
Grade 6 families — as students prepare for their upcoming Outdoor School experience, we will be holding a mandatory parent information meeting on Thursday, February 26 at 5:30 pm at the school. During this meeting, we will:
- Review trip expectations and supervision plans
- Go over packing lists and required forms
- Discuss safety procedures and medical considerations
- Share the learning goals and activities planned for the trip
- Answer any parent questions
More detailed information and reminder notices will be sent home shortly. We strongly encourage all Grade 6 families to attend so everyone feels well-prepared and informed.
Thank you for your continued support, especially during these very cold days. We are looking forward to a week filled with learning, movement, and meaningful community experiences.
