This week certainly had us questioning what season we are in! With the unusually warm and beautiful weather, students were very excited to spend time outdoors. While some icy areas created a bit of a challenge, students still had lots of fun playing soccer, four square, and enjoying time on the playground with their classmates. It has been wonderful to see students staying active, working together, and enjoying fresh air and movement during outdoor learning and recess times.

In the classroom, students have been busy with several engaging learning opportunities. In science, students have been exploring space, with a focus on the planets and their unique characteristics. They have been learning how each planet is different and what makes our solar system so fascinating. In literacy, students have been developing their reading comprehension skills by learning how to annotate texts. This helps students interact more deeply with what they read by making notes, asking questions, and identifying key ideas. In math, students have been strengthening their number sense through skip counting activities, helping build strong foundations for multiplication and pattern recognition.

Our Grade 2 and 3 students also had the exciting opportunity to visit the Science Centre this week. During their field trip, they explored rocks and minerals through hands-on learning experiences. Students were able to observe, sort, and learn about how rocks and minerals are formed and used in everyday life. It was a wonderful extension of their classroom learning and a great chance to explore science in a real-world setting.

Next week will be a short week with only three days of school due to Teachers’ Convention and the Family Day long weekend. Even though it is a shorter week, we have lots of fun planned with our Spirit Days:

  • Monday: Red and Pink Day
  • Tuesday: Fancy Day
  • Wednesday: Heart Accessory Day
All of these are in celebration of Valentine’s Day spirit, and we encourage students to participate if they would like to.

We would also like to invite families to join us for our upcoming School Council Meeting on Tuesday, February 10 at 6:00 PM at the school. A virtual option is also available through the link that was sent out via School Messenger earlier this week. This meeting is a wonderful opportunity for families to share their voice and be involved in important conversations about our School Development Plan, school fees, and information about our school budget. Parent engagement is very valuable to us, and we hope you are able to join us in person or online.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support. We hope you have a wonderful weekend!
