This week was filled with exciting learning opportunities and important milestones for our students.
Our Grade 6 students wrote their first Provincial Achievement Test (PAT) of the year. The writing assessment provided students with an opportunity to showcase their writing skills and demonstrate the learning they have accomplished throughout the school year. While there were certainly a few nerves, students approached the challenge with determination and confidence. The experience also helped them become familiar with the PAT format and process as they prepare for additional assessments in the coming weeks. We are very proud of the effort and perseverance they demonstrated.
Our Kindergarten students and students in our EES classrooms enjoyed a hands-on learning experience through the Scientists in School program. Students explored scientific concepts through engaging activities, experiments, and inquiry-based learning. It was wonderful to see their curiosity and excitement as they discovered new ideas and asked thoughtful questions.
As the weather continues to improve, many classes have taken advantage of opportunities for community walks and outdoor learning experiences. Spending time outdoors allows students to connect their learning to the world around them while building observation, exploration, and social skills.
We were also pleased to welcome many new families to our school community this week. During our Kindergarten Orientation, future kindergarten students and their families had the opportunity to learn more about school life, meet staff members, and begin building connections before September. We also welcomed our new Learning and Literacy (L&L) families for a school visit where they toured the building, met members of our team, asked questions, and learned more about the programs and supports available at EMJ. We look forward to welcoming all of these students and families to our school community.
Looking ahead to next week, we are excited to welcome the Little Red Reading Van to our school. Students will have the opportunity to browse and borrow books, helping to foster a love of reading and literacy. Grade 6 students whose families have provided consent will also receive their scheduled immunizations.
On June 4, we will be celebrating with a Beach Day! Students are encouraged to dress in their favourite beach-themed attire while ensuring clothing remains school appropriate. This fun spirit day is always a highlight and helps us celebrate the approaching summer season together.
Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to another fantastic week of learning, growth, and community at EMJ!
