EMJ Benefits from Class Size Reduction Grant for 2026-2027
We are pleased to inform you that our school has been allocated two additional teaching positions for the 2026-27 school year through the Government of Alberta's Class Size Reduction Grant.
This grant funds teaching positions that support improved learning conditions in Kindergarten to Grade 9 classrooms.
The funding is specifically intended to help reduce class sizes in core subject areas, including English Language Arts/French Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies, with priority given to schools experiencing the greatest class size pressures.
This decision was made using system-wide data that considers:
- The number of classes exceeding provincial class size benchmarks
- Projected enrolment and class organization
- School programming and grade configuration
Our goal is to ensure students benefit from:
- Increased teacher attention
- Improved classroom learning environments
- Greater support for diverse learning needs
We remain committed to supporting strong learning environments for all students and using our resources thoughtfully and strategically.
National Indigenous Peoples Day – June 21, 2026
June 21 marks the 30th anniversary of National Indigenous Peoples Day in Canada. It is a time to recognize and celebrate the histories, cultures, traditions, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.
At EMJ, we will acknowledge this important day on Friday, June 19. Students will participate in a unique learning experience with Jackie Soopit, a Jingle dancer who will perform for our students. She is also going to work with some of our students teaching them the art of Hoop Dancing. We ae excited to learn from her.
Families Eligible for CBE Transportation for 2026-27
Families wishing to access transportation services next year are encouraged to register by the June 14 deadline to be included in CBE transportation planning.
Registrations received after the deadline are not guaranteed a bus stop assignment for the first day of school and may experience a wait of 6-8 weeks before transportation arrangements can be finalized.
Tattoo a Teacher Event
The Grade 6 "Tattoo a Teacher" fundraiser was a huge success! Students had the opportunity to purchase small, medium, or large temporary tattoos for staff members to wear on Friday, June 12.
There were lots of laughs throughout the day as teachers proudly displayed their new artwork. Thank you to everyone who participated and supported this fun event. All proceeds will help fund Grade 6 farewell celebrations.
Duckling Update
It has been an exciting week in our Grade 2/3 classroom with lots of quacking and learning taking place!
The ducklings have made incredible progress over the past week. What began as eggs has now become a group of active, curious ducklings exploring their enclosure and finding their voices. Students have been captivated by the experience and are eagerly observing the changes each day.
This hands-on learning opportunity has allowed students to study life cycles in a meaningful way while developing a deeper understanding of animal growth and development. We look forward to continuing to watch the ducklings grow over the coming weeks.
Grade 4 and 5 Trip to TELUS Spark
On Thursday, our Grade 4 and 5 students enjoyed an exciting field trip to TELUS Spark Science Centre. Students had the opportunity to explore a variety of interactive exhibits, engage in hands-on learning experiences, and discover the wonders of science, technology, engineering, and math.
The day was filled with curiosity, exploration, and fun. Students returned to school with many stories to share about their favourite exhibits and discoveries.
Looking Ahead to Next Week
Our Grade 6 students will continue demonstrating their learning through Provincial Achievement Tests next week. They will be writing the Mathematics PAT on Monday and Thursday. We wish all of our Grade 6 students the very best as they complete these assessments and showcase the hard work they have put in throughout the year.
Next Thursday will also be our final Healthy Hunger lunch of the school year. Students who ordered will enjoy a delicious meal from Boardwalk Burgers. Thank you to our parent volunteers and organizers who have helped make Healthy Hunger lunches a success throughout the year.
