Even though it was a short week, we managed to pack in lots of learning, exploring, and connecting!
Our Grade 3 students headed out on their first field trip of the year to Heritage Park. The weather was beautiful (although the wind certainly made its presence known!), and students enjoyed discovering what life was like many years ago. It was a wonderful opportunity to bring history to life and make connections to what they have been learning in the classroom.
Across the school, students have also been exploring self-regulation and what it looks and feels like to be ready for learning. They have been discovering different strategies to help calm their bodies, manage their emotions, and get ready to learn. From taking a movement break to finding a quiet moment, students are learning that different strategies work for different people. These are important skills that help students build confidence, develop independence, and make the most of their learning.
A big thank-you to all the families who joined us for our School Council meeting on Tuesday evening! It was lovely to see so many new faces, along with our returning families who have been such an integral part of supporting our school community. We appreciate the time, ideas, and energy that our families bring to EMJ. Working together helps us create wonderful opportunities for our students!
Looking Ahead to Next Week
We have another short week coming up! Monday, October 19, is a Professional Learning Day, so there will be no classes for students. Our staff will be spending the day learning and collaborating to continue strengthening teaching and learning at EMJ.
- Fun Lunch – Thursday, October 22: We are looking forward to another fun lunch opportunity! Please make sure you sign up if your child would like to participate.
- Dressing for the Weather: The temperatures are dropping, and winter is starting to remind us that it is on its way! Please help your child come to school dressed for the weather, including a warm jacket, appropriate footwear, and other outdoor essentials. We are continuing to enjoy outdoor learning and recess, even when the temperatures dip. Fresh air and outdoor exploration are still part of our school days, so being dressed for the conditions makes all the difference!
- EMJ School Dance – Thursday, October 29, from 5:30–7:30 p.m.: We are getting excited for our upcoming school dance! Information has been sent home with your child, and we encourage families to take a look. Costumes are welcome and encouraged, so start planning those creative outfits! We ask that costumes remain school appropriate, with no weapons or gory details. We want the evening to be fun and comfortable for everyone.
We are also looking for volunteers to help make the dance a success. If you are available to lend a hand, please scan the QR code on the form that was sent home and sign up. These events are only possible with the support of our wonderful school community, and we are grateful for every helping hand!
As the weather gets cooler and the days get shorter, we are looking forward to continuing to learn, play, and connect together at EMJ. Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership. Have a wonderful weekend, stay warm, and we look forward to seeing everyone next week!
