A Wonderful Week of Learning at EMJ!

What a great week at EMJ! A big thank you to all of our families who joined us on Tuesday evening for Meet the Teacher. It was wonderful to see so many families in the building, connect with teachers, and celebrate the start of another school year together. Your partnership and involvement make such a difference in our school community!

This week also included our first fire drill of the school year. Our students did a fantastic job listening to their teachers, following directions, and exiting the building promptly and efficiently. We will continue to practice our emergency procedures throughout the year so that everyone feels confident and knows what to do should an emergency ever occur.

Across the school, students have been busy learning in many different ways. Some of our students participated in the Early Years Assessments, which provide teachers with information about how students are developing in areas such as reading and mathematics. This information helps us better understand student strengths and identify areas where additional support or enrichment may be helpful.

Our Grade 3 students had a particularly delicious science experience this week as they made ice cream while learning about how temperature can cause changes in matter. Learning science is certainly more memorable when you get to eat the experiment!

In Physical Education, students enjoyed trying Ga Ga Ball, while other classes spent time developing important social skills, including communication, cooperation, problem-solving, and working together. It was another great reminder that learning happens in so many different ways throughout the school day.

Looking Ahead

This coming week, our school will recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Students will participate in age-appropriate learning activities throughout the week, and we will come together for a special assembly to learn, reflect, listen, and honour the experiences and contributions of Indigenous peoples.

There will be no school on Wednesday, September 30, in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

We will also be sending information home about our upcoming Healthy Hunger days. These events are a great way to provide students with a special lunch or treat while also supporting our school through fundraising. Keep an eye out for information about our first Healthy Hunger opportunity!
